About Teresa

Teresa comes from a family business background since the age of 7 and spent the last 16 years pursuing her other passion - travel. For 11 of the past 16 years she owned and operated her own travel agency located on 19th Street in the Heights. During those years she and her husband Matt were fortunate to be able to travel to many places like Alaska, Hawaii and Europe, to name a few . After 9/11 and many other changes that have transpired in the travel industry over the years, it was time to focus on a new passion.

Teresa and Matt have been rescuing and successfully re-homing dogs and cats for the past 10 years. To date they have 3 cat rescues - Sissy (19), Mason and Abby (both 14). Lady is the youngest rescue at 11 years old and 2 fosters, Stella and Daisy. During the years of rescuing animals, Teresa was always looking for a healthier alternative to many of the issues that these animals faced, such as fleas and healthy nutrition. The other criteria is animal products that were Eco-Friendly. When she found a solution, many times she could not find the product locally. So, the idea of a store that had these items under 1 roof was born. All it needed was the right location and must be pet friendly. One night while sleeping it came to her ~ at 3 am ~ THE perfect site. Heights Urban Dog Boutique opened its doors in June 2009 next to 20th Street Grooming & Doggie Daycare.

At Heights Urban Dog Boutique our business philosophy is to begin the search for just the right products right here in our own backyard. We believe in helping the small business owner and focusing our efforts locally first, especially given Teresa's own roots in small family business. With this in mind we start our search for products in Houston, then Texas, and then nationally. Using this method we are proud to say that the majority of our products do come locally.
